Closet Minimalist Stories Ep. 1

This neat stack of clothes is my Summer Capsule Wardrobe. Yup, all of it. This is the official start of my minimalist lifestyle. Three cheers! This is exciting, y'all!

First, why minimalist? Why capsule wardrobe? Because we are filthy rich. We are filthy, stinkin' rich, and our money can be put to better uses than clothing, toys, furniture, stuff, and excesses of food. As you read this, you are probably thinking: I'm not rich! My N E I G H B O R is, though, talk to her!

Friends. Do you have food to eat everyday? Do you have water to drink? Do you have a place to sleep? Do you have a relationship with the God of the Universe? You. Are. Rich.

Poverty is real, as real as the sun rising in the east and setting in the west. Why do we use our extra to buy our own comfort? And ironically, why do we spend our money on things that make our life complicated, stressful, and cluttered? A full closet may be nice, but look me in the eye and tell me that you haven't stood staring for longer than you'd like to admit, wondering how on earth you were going to choose what to wear. How much time and energy do we spend taking care of our things? How much time could we save if we stopped buying things?

Such are my thoughts on the matter. When it comes specifically to fashion, I'd rather not spend days worth of time and money on it and especially not on fashion that I'll never wear. I'd like to buy high-quality, timeless, fair-trade, ethically made clothes that I'll wear for years on end. Wouldn't it be wonderful to L O V E your closet?? That's my goal: to only wear what I love.

First, I am creating the summer portion of this year-round capsule wardrobe with my ten core pieces. It does not include old cleaning clothes, pajamas, or workout clothes. And honestly, I have a few more clothes that I am wearing daily, but these TEN are the center of my wardrobe and a guide to my goal. Plus, I don't think my clothes would survive very long here if I only wore those ten. The dirt and washing tends to be rough on clothes over a long period of time. Even still, these ten are color coordinated and can be mixed and matched into eighteen different outfits, which is definitely enough for a long vacation!

This is the pile of old clothes and hopeless projects. My drawers are blessing me everyday now that I have emptied them considerably. From now on, I must follow the one-for-one rule: every new item must replace an old one.

Hooray for simple elegance!
